Poker was pretty much blah today. After losing $80 something yesterday and feeling terrible about how badly I played, I took the initiative to watch two cardrunners videos to help me find my game again.
I started off really bad in my first session. Dumping money in pots I know I shouldn't be, just being frustrated and giving in to my emotions. But somehow I manged to hit a few hands and break even for that session.
Then later that night I watched my second card runners video and was inspired by one of muddywaters videos to play my best poker game I could. The guy is a beast, he's entertaining to watch and learn from, and he plays by feel just like me. So I will def be watching alot more of his vids while I try to better my nlhe game. But anyway, I forget but I took some silly stupid beats and dropped 2 buyins quickly. I was getting down on myself and starting to hate poker. But thanks to JC he kept me in check and told me to keepy head up. It worked, I kept plugging away playing some grade A poker, I was able to recover the losses and actually end up winning $10 bucks on the day.
But what I really want to do is make notes of everything that I did towards the end of my second session where I thought I played some of the greatest poker I've played in a while. It wasn't that I was playing really tight or overly loose, I was playing smart. Playing my position to benefit me as much as it could. Not floating around with all the garbage crap I usually do oop. I was really tight from ep, ext tight from the sb, and played perfect tight aggressive poker in mp/lp. Going for value, watching my c-bets, some good 3bs in the mix, and lot of excellent reads and folds.
I was extra atentive to stack sizes And how their decision making would reflect their potential holdings. I tagged all the shortstacks on everytable so I would warn myself and take the right precautions playing the shorties. I c-bet and bluffed when their stack sizes allowed me to bluff them perfectly where they would either have to commit themselves or fold and I'd be left with an easy decision. Of course this works best when your playing in position, so keep that in mind.
Keep your mind open to learn new strategies in poker everyday. Vary your bet sizes even if it means overbetting pots sometimes, you got to keep fools guessing and it works like a charm. Same thing goes with tiny min bets and raises. Alright, think that covers it.

Good call with color coding short stacks at the tables. I too, need to recognize chip stacks more often. Sometimes I find myself raising pre not knowing that a shorty has called me. Now the pot is $5, villain has 5 behind, and I miss flop and I'm stuck?? Just an example. Atleast now with the colors it will help us more in these situations. Mahalo!
